The main activity of
A Richards Consulting since our formation in 2019 is engineering support in conjunction with a small group of expert machine design engineers who have also gained many years of experience in the heavy manufacturing, capital equipment industry, particularly in the metals and mining world. This aspect of the business allows us to facilitate small engineering projects and services from independent engineering studies, process studies, engineering design and general troubleshooting and we also have extensive experience in supporting our clients through Front End Loading (FEL) feasibility studies.
More recently we have also signed an agreement with United States Controls (USC) as European representatives which means we will now be able to service our clients requirements for state of the art spray control systems by supplying, installing and maintaining systems on steel and aluminium rolling mills across Europe.

ARC depends on the dedication and expertise of it's core consultants, all of whom have many years experience in the field of steel and aluminium rolling and processing.
Alan Richards
30+ years of experience in the Aluminum and Steel Rolling industry. A mechanical engineer with years of senior management, business development and project development experience working with companies such as Davy, Kvaerner, VAI, Clecim, Siemens, FATA Hunter, FATA EPC, SMS & HATCH, gained living and working in many different countries and cultures. Specific expertise in proposals, EPC/EPCM projects, project management, manufacturing and plant maintenance.
Paul Osborne
30+ years of engineering experience on aluminium and steel mills with a particular emphasis on process know-how, plant optimisation, mill modelling etc. Excellent analytical background and with strong commercial and project management knowledge. Chartered Engineer, has worked with Davy, Siemens VAI, Parkegate, SMS & HATCH.
David Townend
30+ years in mechanical design of rolling mills with a particular expertise in upgrades and modernisation, mill modelling, retrofitting of process control systems and proposals and project implementation. Worked for companies such as Loewy, Davy, Parkegate & HATCH.
Greg Blomfield
30 years’ experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer, working on all aspects of aluminium, stainless and silicon steel mill design. Project Engineer / Lead Engineer and very experienced and capable Mechanical Design Engineer. Has worked on many aspects of rolling mill design for HATCH, SMS, Parkegate, Davy, Siemens VAI and Andritz-Sundwig. Competent with 3D design packages such as Solid Edge etc
Trevor Card
40 years’ experience in the Metals Industry. Innovative Chartered Engineer specializing in mechanical, instrumentation & process control equipment. Technical advisor in rolling mills, coolant filtration systems, electrical, drives, process control & automation gained from positions held with Danieli, Primetals, Danieli Automation, Siemens VAI, Kvaerner Metals, Davy International, Davy McKee and Loewy Robertson. Currently representing IMS GmbH and Comaintel Inc in addition to being the main contact for our USC representation with ARC.
In addition to the above core team, ARC has agreements in place with other associates with expertise in Procurement, Project Management, Fluids engineering, Civils engineering, Electrical engineering who are integrated into the ARC team when required by a project.
